Greener Juice! The Key to Optimal Health. MELISSA HORNUNG

My Green Juice just got greener. Few people know that dark leafy greens like Kale, Spinach even Swiss Chard, are not only packed with anti-oxidants, vitamins, protein and nutrients, they are fueled with live enzymes that literally go to work inside of our bodies. They give us extra energy and gives our immune system the boost it needs to fight colds, flus and other viruses. 

 

Also, if you thought Celery was an empty vegetable of mostly water, think again! Celery has been used since the ancient Egyptian times as a medicinal cure for a multitude of ailments and is still know today to lower blood pressure, protect the body from Chemotherepy effects, it has anti-hypertensive and anti-inflammatory properties! Yes silly little celery. 

 

And don’t doubt the power of cucumbers either. Cucumbers are high in nutrients and low in calories, they promote hydration in the colon to promote regularity and lowers blood sugar aiding in weight loss. I say bring um on!  

 

What about green Apple and why? Well because it is the lowest in sugar content of the other varieties, green apple adds the right amount of sweetness without adding too many calories. Also, hear this, green apple aids in slowing down the aging process with it’s rich antioxidants that aid in rebuilding cells and cell turnover to rejuvenate and maintain healthy glowing skin.  It has long been recognized as one of the healthiest fruits you can eat as it is innately packed with a variety of essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, minerals and fibers. No wonder one a day keeps the doctor away. 

 

Let’s also talk about ginger root! Ginger root is the ultimate super food. It’s an anti-inflammatory, it’s known to easy nausea, and help with chronic indigestion, and it aids in fighting infections, improves brain function, protects against Alzheimer’s, and contains a substance that may prevent cancer all together. Need I say more? I’m going with this and putting it in my juicer every day.  

 

Wait! What about lemons? As a rich source of vitamin C, lemons strengthen the Immune system to help your body kick the cold and flu right out of the ball park. Lemons also help your body to maintain a healthy PH balance which is linked to fighting cancer. If all of that isn’t enough, lemons are an excellent source of calcium, potassium and magnesium. I say, drop a whole one in my juicer with those greens every morning and call it a day. 

 

So, if you don’t have one already, get yourself a juicer. It’s specific for extracting juice from vegetables as well as roots and fruits at speeds that won’t kill the enzymes. I use a brand called Breville. You can purchase one online through Amazon and it will come right to your door.  There are a lot of them so don’t get overwhelmed. You won’t need a professional one, I spent $119 plus tax, shipping was free because I’m an Amazon Prime memeber. Once you have that, you can make this juice recipe below which is my every day green juice give or take a veggie or two. Everything I choose is always organic and cleaned thoroughly. As with anything, if you are on medicine or have dietary restrictions, check with your doctor first before adding this to your daily routine. 

 

Greener Juice for 1

 

1 organic cucumber 

4 large leaves of organic Kale

1 large handful of organic spinach 

3-4 organic celery stalks 

1 organic whole lemon 🍋 (yes rind too)

1 piece of organic ginger root (thumb sized)

1 green apple 

 

Send all ingredient through a juicer, drink, enjoy and repeat daily! 🍹  To Your Health! 

 

 

Note: Get creative if you want by adding other greens and experimenting with other veggies. This is always my base but you can add carrot, beet root, parsley, other greens if you’d like.
